Diamond Mountain University: Sacred Classics Translator Program Webcast

Please be aware that Arizona is not on Daylight Savings time in the summer. This means that prior to April 3, the time here is two hours later than the east coast of the U.S. and one hour earlier than the west coast; after April 3, the time here is the same as the west coast and three hours later than the east coast.

To participate in the Sacred Classics Translator Program webcast, you must first have two
applications on your machine: 1) streaming MP3 to hear Geshe Michael Roach
teach and 2) text chat to see what Geshe Michael is translating in real time. Then,
you change settings in each application to join the webcast. We strongly
suggest that you download, install, and try the applications before the start of
the webcast.
Click the name of your operating system for links to free downloads of the applications you'll
need, as well as instructions for changing settings so you can tune into the webcast.

Streaming MP3
We've found three streaming Mp3 applications for you to choose from. One application may
work better than the others, depending on your Internet connection and version of Windows.
- Winamp
- Download and install Winamp.
Use the default installation settings.
- Open Winamp, and on the File menu, click Play URL.
- Type dorian.fugue.com:8000, and click OK.
- Wait 10 seconds or so, and you will start hearing audio. Until class begins, we will
play old recordings so you can test your system.
Note: If you receive connection errors using Winamp, you may have better luck with iTunes.
If you are using an older version of Windows, try Zinf.
- iTunes (Windows 2000 and XP only)
- Download and install iTunes.
- Open iTunes, and on the Advanced menu, click Open Stream.
- Type dorian.fugue.com:8000, and then click OK.
- Wait 10 seconds or so, and you will start hearing audio. Until class begins, we will
play old recordings so you can test your system.
- Zinf
- Download and install Zinf.
- Open Zinf, and next to Open, click Files.
- In the Add Tracks and Playlists dialog box, in the URL text box at the bottom,
type dorian.fugue.com:8000, and then click Open URL.
- Wait 10 seconds or so, and you will start hearing audio. Until class begins, we will
play old recordings so you can test your system.
Chat
It is important to download and install the two X-Chat files in the proper order.
- Download and install
X-Chat 2 GTK+ Runtime environment.
- Download and install
X-Chat 2 Latest release installer.
- Open XChat, and in the Nick name and User name text boxes, type the first nine characters of your name, without spaces (no nicknames, please). For example, if your name is Lobsang Drakpa, type "LobsangDr".
- In the Real name text box, type your real name (spaces are ok).
- Click Add. New Network is added to the Networks list and is selected.
- Type DMU to change the name, and then click Edit.
- In the X-Chat: Edit DMU dialog box, under Servers for DMU, select newserver/6667 and click Edit.
- Type www.dmes.org/10378.
- Under Connecting, do the following:
- Click the Auto connect to this network at startup checkbox.
- Clear the Use a proxy server checkbox.
- In the Channels to join text box, type #tibtrans.
- In the Server password text box, type ts0ndr0.
- Click Close.
- In the X-Chat: Server List dialog box under Networks, select DMU and then click Connect.
Streaming MP3
- Download and install iTunes (OS X) or
iTunes (OS 9).
- Open iTunes, and on the top menu bar, click Advanced, and then click Open Stream.
- Type dorian.fugue.com:8000 and click OK.
- Wait 10 seconds or so, and you will hear the audio. Until class begins, we will play old recordings so you can test your system.
Chat
- Download and install
X-Chat Aqua.
- Drag the X-Chat Aqua icon into your Applications folder to install it.
- Open X-Chat Aqua, and in the Nick name and User name text boxes, type the first nine characters of your name, without spaces (no nicknames, please). For example, if your name is Lobsang Drakpa, type "LobsangDr".
- In the Real name text box, type your real name (spaces are ok).
- Click Add Network.
- Make sure the Edit Mode check box is checked.
- In the Server text box, type www.dmes.org.
- In the Port text box, type 10378.
- Select the Auto connect to this network at startup check box.
- Clear the Use a proxy server check box.
- Clear the Cycle until connected check box.
- In the Server password text box, type ts0ndr0.
- In the Channels to join text box, type #tibtrans.
- Select the No server list on start up check box.
- Click Connect.
