<AndreaLe> Hello
<PeteUlint> Hi Andrea
<bonniewin> Hello Andrea
<AndreaLe> Bonnie -- congratulations! You're on the chat this time :-)
<AndreaLe> So, did all you Mac OS X users get the new VNC tool we just
announced?
<bonniewin> Yes, I finally dowmloaded a version that works.. :-)
<AndreaLe> "Chicken of the VNC" bad, "tightVNC" good!

<AndreaLe> Hi jrigvintu
<John> hi,
<bonniewin> Yes, i downloaded it and hopefully it will work.
<John> i thought the class was starting 30 minutes from now
<John> did i get my time zone conversion wrong?
<DavidFish> no, i think we're listening to re-runs.
<DavidFish> andrea,
<AndreaLe> John, in theory class is starting in about 25 minutes.
<John> whew!
<PeteUlint> Hi John(s?)
<-- michaeles has quit (Ping timeout: 258 seconds)
<DavidFish> should i worry yet about just having a black screen?
<AndreaLe> That's an old recording you hear streaming.
<John> now i remember the "i'm too old, i'm too dumb part!"
<PeteUlint> Hey is the sound periodically going out for about 20
seconds or so for you guys? I notice it happening, and my
processor load going up to 100% or so, about every five minutes.
<AndreaLe> Yes, black screen is normal because we're still getting
connected here.
<AndreaLe> Is anyone using Chicken of the VNC?
<AndreaLe> (I'm going to ask every 5 minutes)
<DavidFish> peter, i think you're buffering periodically which is
something that's happening to me as well.
<PeteUlint> Yea, that makes sense, thanks.

<AugustoOr> hello from Brazil...
<AndreaLe> Hi Augusto!
<AndreaLe> Say, are you on Mac OS X?
<PeteUlint> Hi Augusto
<AugustoOr> No, Windows XP
<AndreaLe> OK, just making sure you're not using the old bad Mac VNC
client.
<AugustoOr> VNC only gives me a black screen
<AndreaLe> Yeah, the server's down. It'll go up in a minute.
<AugustoOr> I know, I got the message from Ted...
<AugustoOr> any news on the start time tonight (today)? Ted mentioned
you were still encountering some minor difficulties, and because
of that we would have to start a little late...
<AugustoOr> oh, hi Pete

<JRigzin> How do I get a copy of this music (Geshe-la and someone else
I think?hat) It is beautiful!
<AugustoOr> what is this song?
<AndreaLe> It's actually Geshe-la and Christie singing the Yoga Sutras.
<AugustoOr> is it sanskrit? kinda sounds like it
<JRigzin> it is very beautiful
<JRigzin> is there a cd of it?
<AndreaLe> Very haunting sounding... and lovely.
<AugustoOr> that's exactly what I liked about it... I love music that
sound haunting like that
<AndreaLe> It used to be kind of an easter egg on the DMU website, but
I'm not sure if it's there anymore.

<AndreaLe> We can put it up for you somewhere... not now though :-)
<DavidFish> it may be the yoga sutra they're chanting.
<JRigzin> lol, later would be acceptable :-)
<JRigzin> and appreciated!

<AugustoOr> same here, Kent... The server is still down...

<PattiLoun> Hi everyone

<AndreaLe> Are you on Mac OS X?
<DavidFish> Max, thanks for the tib font rendition. it was helpful.
<roberthou> yes
<AndreaLe> No one should be using Chicken of the VNC. There's a new

<Copper> Hi Andrea, are we supposed to be able to hear anything yet?
<kentsandv> Theoretically that Java app should work with Windows, but
it needs testing and the java runtime. Java is by default in the
MacOSX system.
<michaeles> I am using the Tight VNC for mac and not getting any
picture
<AndreaLe> No, alas.
<AndreaLe> That's because there is no picture yet, MichaelEs
<Max> Thanks
<danielaC> is anyone getting anything? sound?
<Haydenlaw> Just lost sound
<DavidFish> no sound
<Haydenlaw> Chat is working find ;-)
<Haydenlaw> fine
<bonniewin> I have worked some online university courses with hightec
and there are always some problems. I solute you for the great
work in making this work as well as it is.
<Copper> O.K., just wondering...the DM broadcast banner sez 'test'
<roberthou> ok, downloaded tight vnc, but just get a black "sherap"
screen.
<PattiLoun> It's also saying stream not found.
<AndreaLe> No VNC server yet.

<AndreaLe> Does anyone hear any live audio?

<JRigzin> yes
<AndreaLe> Anyone hearing audio now?
<SheilaRic> So, I think I get the game plan. When everything starts
working, we're supposed to hear Geshe-la, see whatever he is
pointing to, and meanwhile the distance students can talk amongst
themselves?
<PeteUlint> yep.
<JRigzin> yes
<PattiLoun> yep, we can hear, no can see

<AndreaLe> Speaking for Elly, it shouldn't be a problem. It's very
easy to make PDFs on the Mac.
<AugustoOr> bless the mac

fonts, as well, seems to work fine.

<AndreaLe> Yeah, we foisted one on her.
<AndreaLe> Poor thing.

<AugustoOr> I'm trying to refresh VNC, is GMR typing something under

<TedLemon> Please don't ever try to refresh VNC.
<AugustoOr> ok...

<kentsandv> Yes, VNC was now disconnected over here.
<AugustoOr> disconected here as well
<bonniewin> so do we just wait for reconnection or do we do something/
<AndreaLe> Just wait for the moment.
<AndreaLe> Geshe-la's computer just crashed, and we're not sure whether
the VNC caused it or what.
<kentsandv> XP...
<AugustoOr> tell us when we can try to open VNC again, ok
<AugustoOr> I didn't get GMR's explanation about YAB SRAS... did he
only tell that it mean "(exalted) father and son"? or did he
explain what that means?
<AndreaLe> Don't miss the Principle of Translation: Save your work
constantly.
<AndreaLe> He's explaining it... it's a footnote thing.
<Max> always a good advice :-)
<AndreaLe> He says don't get stressed about anything, because you won't
know half of what he's saying.
<AugustoOr> ok... the sound is delayed here, that's why
<AugustoOr> just heard him saying that now
<AndreaLe> Cool
<AndreaLe> (I just couldn't wait to tell you)
<AugustoOr> VNC is still down, though
<AndreaLe> We may not put it back up tonight... because it's a network
problem (I initially typed "notwork")

<AndreaLe> This house is being rewired, and I think it's been kind of
hosed.
<roberthou> i see the ms word doc, but are we also supposed to see gmr?
<AndreaLe> No, just his screen.
<michaeles> I am not getting any audi
<kentsandv> Audio Ok here.
<AndreaLe> He's now translating the poem (not talking)
<michaeles> oh
<AndreaLe> The lines starting Zab ching...
<michaeles> I thought cing only linked verbs
<PattiLoun> thanks
<kentsandv> Actually, the audio went down for me, now, as well.

<KendallMa> Is there a trick to getting sound back or do we just wait?
<AndreaLe> try waiting, I guess
<kentsandv> interesting translation order! NYI MA is in the third
sentence of the row if I understand what's going on.
<kentsandv> Or I think the fourth, tricky to follow along.
<PeteUlint> sound back for me. loud!
<AugustoOr> sound back
<Max> sound back
<AndreaLe> be careful what you wish for!
<PeteUlint> :-)
<AugustoOr> some weird sounds... is that geshe-la typing REALLY loud?
<AugustoOr> GMR is away from the mike?
<Max> far-reaching = vast I suppose
<AugustoOr> I here somebody else typing
<AndreaLe> (Translation:) "... you are a friend to all the
world,/unbeknownst to those you serve,/you are the eye that
lights the excellent path/to beings of all three realms."
<Christoph> GMR's voice mostly obscured by someone
<danielaC> we're getting someone typing instead of primarily Geshe's
voice. ??
<AugustoOr> same here...
<roberthou> hmmmm. lost all sound and vnc hookup.
<AndreaLe> He asked for advice from the crowd, so that must make it
hard to hear.
<AndreaLe> Doggone network problems!
<AndreaLe> Talking about RAB BYAMS (rab jam)...
<AndreaLe> Verse starting with "RAB BYAMS": "May I always be blessed/by
my Lama, Gentle Voice."
<AugustoOr> typing really close and painfully loudly to mike
<SheilaRic> Now no sound for me and no VNC
<AugustoOr> no sound, no VNC
<bonniewin> ditto
<Max> no sound
<AugustoOr> it seems we are gonna get to learn that lesson from
whatever you guys upload later...

and listen to more Patanjali music
<AugustoOr> sound back
<AndreaLe> It's not playing now, though (the Patanjali).
<AndreaLe> I'll put it online for you in a day or so.
<KendallMa> That was my question, even though we don't have sound here
and now, can we check back later and get the recording? Since I
am driving 7 hours to get there tommorrow, I think maybe I'll
catch up next week!
<Max> sound back

<PattiLoun> hi irma, didn't see you in the list until now.
<michaeles> where in the text are we now?
<AugustoOr> "profound topics", tell GMR... according to Ranjung Yeshe
<AugustoOr> ZAB MO'I GNAS
<AndreaLe> Translation: "... whose lion's roar shakes the
world,/unequalled, proclaiming the excellent words,/the inner
secret whisperings,/that profound state,/brought from the circle
of a billion Victors..."
<AugustoOr> PHUL = exquisite, eminent, best perfected... according to
RY... tell Geshe-la
<AndreaLe> He's tweaked it a little more... you'll see in the uploaded
version later.
<AugustoOr> RY = Ranjung Yeshe dictionary
<AndreaLe> Pesky time delay... he's moved on to the next bit.
<AndreaLe> Now we're on DUS SGUM BDE BAR
<bonniewin> no vnc, should I reconnect or something?
<AndreaLe> Translation: "I bow from the depths of my heart/to
Nagarjuna. It was you that/Those Gone Thus ..."
<TedLemon> I've turned vnc off because the network is so bad that it's
hanging Geshe Michael's computer. :'(
<bonniewin> ok, that's cool.
<TedLemon> Can you hear at all?
<PeteUlint> Is that perhaps a principal? Break up long sentances?
<AugustoOr> yes... Buddhas of the Three Times
<michaeles> sound ok now
<bonniewin> yes, i have great audio. :-)
<PattiLoun> audio is good
<PeteUlint> I can hear.
<RichenLo> Sound ok here in Australia
<AugustoOr> sentient beings in HGWells now
<AndreaLe> Good. Even though the VNC is hosed tonight, it's pretty
cool that you can hear live-ish Dharma from the remotest Arizona
desert.
<AndreaLe> This class should be called "In the Translator's Studio"
<PeteUlint> Sure is!
<bonniewin> oh yes.
<DavidFish> agreed
<michaeles> agree with the commment on Sentient Being
<AugustoOr> hear hear
<roberthou> yes, thanks Andrea and Ted
<JRigzin> it thrills me that I can get it here in Toronto in real time
<michaeles> But what else should we use?
<TedLemon> person?
<DavidFish> living being?
<bonniewin> oh, that is cool.
<TedLemon> I bow from the depths of my heart to Nagarjuna. It was you
that Those Gone Thus, living in the past, and the present and
future,
<PattiLoun> i like living being, not just human/person
<michaeles> I heard HHDL complain about living being because "the
Buddha is a living being."
<AugustoOr> but people invent words all the time... "google" this and
you'll find out... :-)
