<Copper>	you still with us Thondup?

<PattiLoun>	hi andrea

<PeteUlint>	Hey there James

<anthonyde>	ted, let us know what you want us to do?

<AndreaLe>	Hi! I'm almost embarrassed to admit I'm the Webcast-Help
                person...

<Haydenlaw>	Hmmm well - bet you get a lot of emails tonight.

<AndreaLe>	I'm Ted's wife, and I'm his eyes and ears on the chat.

<Copper>	Hi Andrea!

<anthonyde>	thanks andrea

<PeteUlint>	Hi Andrea!

<AndreaLe>	Yes, I have a big list I'm trying to work through.

<Copper>	Hi Ted

<alice>	thanks, andrea

<PattiLoun>	obstacles show us we are moving in the right direction

<kentsandv>	Hello says Kent.

<AndreaLe>	Is everyone able to hear the audio?

<anthonyde>	hi guys!

<Haydenlaw>	I can.

<AugustoOr>	perfectly here

<Christoph>	Yes thanks

<PeteUlint>	Yep, I have audio.

<alice>	yes

<Copper>	Yup on audio!

<PattiLoun>	great audio

<Abelveram>	yes

<Haydenlaw>	Very clear audio.

<danielaC>	we can hear you

<AndreaLe>	VNC server still not running...

<AndreaLe>	But as you can hear, GMR says he doesn't need the screen
                thing this minute.

<Copper>	Hi GMR!!!

<AugustoOr>	Hi Geshe-la

<PattiLoun>	hello Geshe-la

<alice>	HI Geshela

<EllyvdPas>	Can everyone hear Geshe la?

<alice>	yes

<Haydenlaw>	Sound is low.

<PeteUlint>	Hi Geshe-la!! Yep, sounds perfect.

<anthonyde>	we can hear you perfectly

<PattiLoun>	we can hear

<AndreaLe>	It's silent now... meditation.

<Christoph>	could be a little louder..

<Abelveram>	the sound of the micro is low

<AndreaLe>	We'll work on it after meditation.

<EllyvdPas>	we're meditating now so no sound

<Copper>	Could Geshe-la move closer to mike? oops! o.k.

<Abelveram>	no sound

<AugustoOr>	(meditating now, Abel...)

<Abelveram>	sorry

<AndreaLe>	Moving microphone closer...

<Copper> When the 'welcome mat' to emptiness disappears, you know
                you've crossed over the threshold.

<AndreaLe>	:-)

<zorie1>	word!

<AugustoOr>	sound's perfect, guys...

<EllyvdPas>	Please let us know if the sound is OK

<AndreaLe>	Can you hear Geshe-la's heartbeat? It's right on his chest
                right now!

<Max>	sound is good here too

<PattiLoun>	sound is good here

<Haydenlaw>	It's ok.

<Copper>	good Geshe-la

<AndreaLe>	No longer.

<danielaC>	much better now...although might be best to check Geshe M's
                voice

<danielaC>	yes, perfect

<PattiLoun>	very nice, thanks

<Max>	ok

<AndreaLe>	yay

<alice>	ok

<PeteUlint>	VNC is up.

<kentsandv>	Thanks, works here, too (VNC).

<AndreaLe>	Yay!

<alice>	not work for me

<alice>	vnc does not work for me

<AugustoOr>	works here

<kentsandv>	Alice, what happens when you try to connect with VNC?

<AugustoOr>	try reinstalling it...

<Haydenlaw>	Got it - VNC good.

<alice>	ok, i'll try again

<Christoph>	VNC working well here

<Abelveram>	vnc working for me

<Copper>	Alice, did you get the instructions to step 5 completed?

<PattiLoun>	yep, vnc is up for me. alice you may need to check how you
                put in the password

<alice>	failed after step 5 "failed to connect with server"

-->	TedLemon (~TedLemon@206-169-64-120.vtc.net) has joined #tibtrans

<kentsandv>	Alice, that happened earlier when the server was not
                running.

<TedLemon>	So are people able to see the VNC now?

<Haydenlaw>	I am.

<AugustoOr>	So am I

<Max>	yep

<PeteUlint>	yep, I'm in.

<Abelveram>	can you check Geshe la voice

<PattiLoun>	ME, TOO

<kentsandv>	If it still fails, check the password. Other issues might
be any possible firewalls on the port.

<JamesDunn>	I can't.

<AugustoOr>	Abel, try turning up the volume on your computer or
headphones

<kentsandv>	Yes, the audio level is fine over here. Check the computer
setups.

<AndreaLe>	JamesDunn, you can't do what?

<EllyvdPas>	Can everyone hear OK?

<Abelveram>	thanks

<Copper>	the password is ts0ndr0 the 0's are zero's and not oh's

<AugustoOr>	sound great, VNC working perfectly

<Christoph>	Yes, sound is good thanks

<AndreaLe>	:-) Augusto

<JamesDunn>	see the vnc

<Haydenlaw>	I can hear ok but my PC sound and Winamp sound are both at
max. But it's ok.

<Max>	ok here

<AndreaLe>	JamesDunn, what platform?

<JamesDunn>	winamp

<AndreaLe>	winamp is audio, not vnc

<AugustoOr>	hey, does anybody has the URL for the bboard? Is it on the
DMU site? I'd like to check that before I go

<JamesDunn>	I'll try something else. Thanks

<--	alicechen has quit (Read error: Connection reset by peer)

<--	alice has quit (Write error: Broken pipe)

<AndreaLe>	www.dmes.org/trans-bboard

<kentsandv>	If you run windows, click on the bottom right corner on the
                loudspeaker' icon.

<Copper>	Augusto: www.dmes.org::4099 then click options

<kentsandv>	You should get a small mixer where you could change the
overall volume of the Windows system.

<AndreaLe>	JamesDunn, did you try TightVNC?

<TedLemon>	The root text, in Tibetan, is available for download at
                http://www.dmes.org/gongsel.zip

<JamesDunn>	I'm doing that now

<Max>	thanks for both links

<kentsandv>	Well, I'm meditating every day :-)

<Copper>	o.k. now Alice?

<--	alicechen has quit (Client Quit)

<Max>	ok :-)

<PattiLoun>	ok..practice first, nerd later.

<kentsandv>	I guess I have a 'nerd' image.

<TedLemon>	You have a crazy tantric practitioner image, Kent. :')

get the recording later, if possible before next Friday... Can
anybody save the text of this chat and post it on the Bboard,

<Max>	Thanks a lot

<AugustoOr>	Bye, then... Have a nice class! See you all on Friday

<Copper>	See you Fri., Augusto!

<anthonyde>	Andrea, the VNC is now working , and coming up with GMR and
                CM's desktop

<AndreaLe>	Yes, they aren't using it yet. Glad it's working :-)

<alicechen>	vnc is working now, i miss typed "www.dmes.org:4099"

<AndreaLe>	Glad it's working. Do you have audio?

<Copper>	Bravo Alice!!

<AndreaLe>	Alice, do you have audio?

<PeteUlint>	A little worried about resolution via VNC. Lots of blurry
words.

<AndreaLe>	Are you on Windows? Did you change the JPEG compression
setting?

<PeteUlint>	Setting at 5. Maybe bump higher?

<Copper>	Pete...you can set the JPEG compression to as much as 9

<AndreaLe>	Guys, please tell me if the sound quality gets gummy when
the wind blows. We have the window open and can close it if
                things get inaudible.

<PeteUlint>	cool, thanks.

<jrigzintu>	i'm not seeing any of the words geshe michael is typing.
                should I be now?

<Haydenlaw>	Sound here is pretty steady.

<AndreaLe>	I'd rather you kept the JPEG compression around 5 (if that's
legible), since we don't have so much bandwidth.

<AndreaLe>	Geshe-la isn't using the computer right now.

<jrigzintu>	cool, thanks

<kentsandv>	So far the audio has been fine here, but I'm listening
                through self-powered studio monitors.

<AndreaLe>	Also, I don't think the JPEG compression will matter too
much, since everything important will be in a text window.

<zorie1>	Welcome!

<AndreaLe>	welcome Benjamin... please let me know if you're having any
                problems with audio or VNC.

<BenjaminW>	thank you

<AndreaLe>	(i'm the webcast-help person)

<JamesDunn>	Andrea, I've installe TightVNC & I'm still not getting
                video

<AndreaLe>	JamesDunn, the details for TightVNC include two colons in
                the URL www.dmes.org::4099

<alicechen>	JamesDunn, plese make sure www.dmes.org::4099 with "::"

<AndreaLe>	Another detail is that the password ts0ndr0 has zeros and
not capital O.

<anthonyde>	sound id good

<jrigzintu>	sound is great here too

<EllyvdPas>	We're getting GMR's computer set up so we can see it here.
Hence the pause.

<PattiLoun>	sounds great

<JamesDunn>	I've got that right! I'm seeing a screen that say dzokpa in
the upper right, a salmon backgroung w/icons & the Command
Prompt winndow in the center. Sound is fine

<Abelveram>	sound here is great

<Haydenlaw>	James - that

<Haydenlaw>	that's good.

<AndreaLe>	Yay James!

<Abelveram>	vnc is working very good also

<Copper>	James, it's what I've got in Texas too!

<EllyvdPas>	What are you all seeing on VNC?

<PeteUlint>	black screen?

<Haydenlaw>	Just seeing icons and pink background

<Haydenlaw>	Plus command prompt window

<PeteUlint>	I'm seeing a black screen.

<anthonyde>	black screen

<PeteUlint>	Nothing in it.

<kentsandv>	I'm seeing the desktop with the command prompt window as
well as some non-updated areas. Has not changed for the last
                20 minutes or so.

<Haydenlaw>	No change yet

<AndreaLe>	Command prompt window bad.

<TedLemon>	Oh dear.

<Max>	same, icons on pink back

<Abelveram>	I see the command prompt and the screm

<jrigzintu>	i have the vnc screen all the way here in Toronto

<jrigzintu>	!!

<danielaC>	we're seeing pink background, blue box with black screen.

<PattiLoun>	salmon bacground, command prompt..that's all

<danielaC>	a little bit of everything

<AndreaLe>	OK, we're working on it...

<AndreaLe>	I'm having the same problem here.

<PattiLoun>	no, same thing

<PeteUlint>	I'm periodically going to the top of the window,
right-clicking, and doing a 'request screen refresh' though.

<BenjaminW>	perfect

<Copper>	O.K., tell the one's w/ pink screen to restart the VNC

<AndreaLe>	Geshe-la's shutting down application to try to smooth out
                his computer.

<Haydenlaw>	connection clsode

<Haydenlaw>	closed

<AndreaLe>	Ted just shut down the server.

<Copper>	O.K. it's shut-down now!

<AndreaLe>	He's restarting.

<kentsandv>	Ok, after reconnect I

<kentsandv>	m now seeing the Microsoft Word and open dialog.

<anthonyde>	now seeing it fine - GMRs desktop with less programs
                running on it

<AndreaLe>	Reconnect, gang.

<EllyvdPas>	Everyone check the bboard later for the text. I'll post it
                sometime tonight.

<Haydenlaw>	Ah text

<Copper>	I have his WORD screen now!! Looks good

<Max>	ok, text

<jrigzintu>	i see some beautiful Wylie here!

<PattiLoun>	microsoft word...no, I see wylie

<anthonyde>	now seeing the acip wylie - first 7 lines

<PeteUlint>	Reconnected. Everything looks great, Tibetan translit on
the screen.

<AndreaLe>	OK, it's a little behind... now we have to see if it
updates.

<danielaC>	we have acip text

<Haydenlaw>	This is fine -

<AndreaLe>	Is it updating? We think the Mac client (Chicken of the
                VNC) may be the problem.

<TedLemon>	So we're not getting the screen here with the Mac client.

<TedLemon>	Are there any Mac clients out there?

<Abelveram>	seeing 7 lines of acip text

<kentsandv>	Yes, I have not seen an update here either, and I'm using
Chicken.

<AndreaLe>	It should start with @01A *,,BSTAN

<Copper>	Will the Wylie be in caps? (ACIP)?

<TedLemon>	Argh.

<kentsandv>	Refresh does not help, either.

<EllyvdPas>	It's ACIP caps

<TedLemon>	Kent, can you try another Mac client and see what happens?

<TedLemon>	I think it's a protocol issue.

<Copper>	O.K.!

<AndreaLe>	Any Windows users having luck?

<kentsandv>	I'll try with my Windows laptop...

<Haydenlaw>	What I see starts DON RTOGS

<PeteUlint>	Me 2. DON RTOGS...

<AndreaLe>	Yeah, that's what I have too, but that's not what's actually
                his screen.

<alicechen>	I have"DON RTOGS PA'I..."

<anthonyde>	same - but not the latest enlarged text

<AndreaLe>	grrr

<TedLemon>	okay, that's the old text.

<TedLemon>	argh.

<PattiLoun>	mine starts with don rtogs, too

<jrigzintu>	me too

<AndreaLe>	If we can't get the live VNC working, I'll at least try to
send you the before and after.

<kentsandv>	Are we at DON RTOGS PA'I... with hilight?

<AndreaLe>	Does *anyone* have something other than DON RTOGS?

<Haydenlaw>	Lost connection

<AndreaLe>	Oh, I think Ted just restarted it.

<Max>	can anybody send me the original text?

<kentsandv>	I see both on both screens, Mac + Windows.

<alicechen>	lost connection

<Max>	Lost connection

<kentsandv>	Ok, the network went down now.

<PattiLoun>	network down

<Copper>	Lost connect...

<kentsandv>	Ouch, audio down now, too.

<Haydenlaw>	My sound is still ok.

<Abelveram>	lost connection

<AndreaLe>	The original text is http://www.dmes.org/gongsel.zip

<EllyvdPas>	Must be a network glitch says Ted.

<Abelveram>	audio still going

<kentsandv>	OK, got back after rebuffering.

<AndreaLe>	Good news Kent.

<Max>	thanks andrea

<kentsandv>	But VNC server is still down.

<Abelveram>	vnc down

<AndreaLe>	Reconnect to VNC.

<jrigzintu>	its up again

<PeteUlint>	Okay, new text. Starts with @267A.

<kentsandv>	Yes, seeing it with "chicken" again!

<AndreaLe>	That's what's on GMR's screen, but he hasn't changed it
                lately.

<Haydenlaw>	Ok starting with @267....

<alicechen>	starting with @267...

<EllyvdPas>	He's back to 01A

<AndreaLe>	Now he's changed it... it starts with @01A now. I'm not
                getting an update :-(

<TedLemon>	Unfortunately we're not getting the updates.

<AndreaLe>	Got it!

<Haydenlaw>	Just got the update

<anthonyde>	got it as well

<AndreaLe>	Woo hoo!

<Christoph>	Getting it fine here now

<TedLemon>	Ah. It's just slow because it's a big bitmap. We should
disconnect.

<PeteUlint>	I see it. @01A.

<PattiLoun>	just got update

<TedLemon>	We means us folks at DM, btw.

<AndreaLe>	Ted and I are disconnecting so we won't hog any bandwidth.
That seems to be the problem.

<TedLemon>	Not clear, but it's *a* problem.

<AndreaLe>	I can't monitor the VNC anymore, but I'll try to tell you
when the screen changes so you guys can tell me if it works.

<TedLemon>	If updates are slow, I guess we can manage.

<Christoph>	ok, thanks

<alicechen>	ok

<TedLemon>	Yay Andrea!

<JamesDunn>	Looks good to me!

<PeteUlint>	I think its fine.

<TedLemon>	Are you seeing the Find dialog?

<anthonyde>	no

<kentsandv>	Nope

<PeteUlint>	No

<alicechen>	no

<TedLemon>	Let's see what happens.

<Christoph>	no updating occurring, even if we try refreshing

<kentsandv>	No updates.

<Max>	still on @01

<kentsandv>	VNC connection lost.

<Max>	connection closed

<AndreaLe>	I'm guessing it's a bandwidth problem...

<AndreaLe>	Ted must have restarted it.

<zorie1>	@01 is fine, the screen isn't changing now anyway!

<kentsandv>	New connect, now I'

<AndreaLe>	Find dialog visible?

<kentsandv>	m seeing the Find and Replace window.

<AndreaLe>	Hmm. Now he's changing stuff again, so we'll have to see if
                it works.

<PeteUlint>	yep, me too.

<Max>	I see the find window

<jrigzintu>	now seeing the find window

<PattiLoun>	me too

<Christoph>	ok, seems to be updating sporadically now

<AndreaLe>	cool... all he's doing is writing in the Find dialog. No
                dramatic changes yet.

<alicechen>	me too, find and replace window

<PeteUlint>	no real changes since the reconnect though.

<TedLemon>	A lot of clients are sending full update requests. Are
                people requesting these?

<PeteUlint>	YEa, should we stop?

<TedLemon>	Yes, don't do that.

<TedLemon>	It chews up a horrific amount of bandwidth.

<AndreaLe>	Is that a setting you can change?

<Haydenlaw>	I'm leaving it alone - will it update automatically if I
                don't

<Christoph>	ok, no more refreshes ...

<TedLemon>	It should update automatically.

<kentsandv>	What's the setting in "Chicken"? I will look around.

<TedLemon>	If you don't ask for a full update, it won't happen.

<AndreaLe>	THanks Kent

<Haydenlaw>	Yep - got auto update

<AndreaLe>	Woo hoo, redux

<Max>	ok

<PeteUlint>	seeing changes now. :-)

<kentsandv>	Ok, found it in preferences, was set to full by default...

<AndreaLe>	Ah!

<TedLemon>	Eek!

<TedLemon>	Still getting lots of requests from 69.3.25.16

<kentsandv>	Is dmes.org a proxy? Or is he bottleneck from the original
                DSL line?

<AndreaLe>	Kent, could you please write instructions for Chicken of the
VNC users to change their update settings?

<TedLemon>	dmes.org is a proxy. only one channel to here.

<TedLemon>	however, it may be doing full update requests over the dm
                link when you request them.

<AndreaLe>	Are people seeing a goofy DOS window now?

<jrigzintu>	no

<PeteUlint>	nope.

<Max>	no

<PattiLoun>	no

<JamesDunn>	no

<kentsandv>	OK, those who use MacOSX "Chicken of the VNC'.

<TedLemon>	it's sitting there trying to stuff a full framebuffer down
                someone's slow link.

<kentsandv>	Go to Preferences, select Performance.

<TedLemon>	This thing doesn't seem to be doing a good job of
                multiplexing.

<kentsandv>	Drag the left side slider down, not all the way down, just
                below down.

<kentsandv>	If you drag it all the way down, then you need to update
                things manually.

<Haydenlaw>	not getting updates now

<Haydenlaw>	Assuming there are some

<AndreaLe>	Thanks Kent... I'm going to mail those instructions to the
people who couldn't get Chat working.

<Haydenlaw>	I've got a find and replace window blocking some of the
                text.

<PeteUlint>	Me too.

<Haydenlaw>	lost audio

<PeteUlint>	so did i.

<Max>	lost audio

<AndreaLe>	If you're not on it already, just send my mail at
                webcast-help@dmes.org

<AndreaLe>	Or Elly... that's even better.

<jrigzintu>	thanks

<AndreaLe>	Geshela just said one principle of this class is, "I get my
way". In the end, he decides.

<Abelveram>	the sound came just for two seconds

<AndreaLe>	He says that Tricycle tried to cut out three words from an
article, that he said don't print it.

<kentsandv>	Audio is back here!

<AndreaLe>	Ted says you should quit and restart the audio player.

<Max>	sound!

<PattiLoun>	sound is back on

<AndreaLe>	(If you don't have good audio, that is)

<PeteUlint>	sound back!

<AndreaLe>	Yay

<Haydenlaw>	Back

<Haydenlaw>	Sound back again

-->	TedLemon (~TedLemon@206-169-64-120.vtc.net) has joined #tibtrans

<Max>	sound gone :-(

<AndreaLe>	Ugh

<Max>	attachment to sound :-)

<Max>	sound back

<AndreaLe>	It must be a teaching.

<PeteUlint>	got sound but VNC had to be restarted. Black screen
                showing.

<AndreaLe>	Or not :-)

<Abelveram>	sound back

<Christoph>	Sound back

<TedLemon>	There are kinks to work out of the system. :'(

<AndreaLe>	Kent, my chatless correspondent can't find the "Performance"
                settings.

<kentsandv>	Maybe a misunderstanding, we talked about VNC performance.

<kentsandv>	IRC should not be a problem, that's a very lowbandwidth
                protocol.

<Max>	cannot hear question

<kentsandv>	We need to think more about the settings for VNC, Ted is
right, it could really saturate the pipes depending on the
                setup.

<jrigzintu>	geshe-la's dulcet tones have returned!

<TedLemon>	Yeah, I think VNC is going to be our big obstacle. I
                thought it was more efficient.

<AndreaLe>	She says there's just local

<AndreaLe>	colormodel, display settings, and fullscreen settings.

<AndreaLe>	She says there's just local colormodel, display settings,
and fullscreen settings (I'm talking about Mac VNC client)

<alicechen>	black screen

<TedLemon>	We will try tohave this working better next class.

<AndreaLe>	I sentt her your instructions for killing fullscreen
                upgrades.

<jrigzintu>	black screen here too

<kentsandv>	I'm using version 2.0b2

<AndreaLe>	Oh, class is ending anyhow.

<kentsandv>	Preferences... first entry is called Performance.

<AndreaLe>	Question was about why OCR (optical character recognition)
                scans don't work for Tibetan.

<AndreaLe>	He said it's because Tibetan is hand drawn.

<Max>	thanks

<kentsandv>	It's a very tough computer problem... Kurt Keutzel has more
                info about this problem space.

<kentsandv>	one problem is that for OCR it's hard to know where words
                start and end in Tibetan.

<anthonyde>	Question for GMR - shouldn't this text be considered a
"root text" in the 'onion skin " theory, and thus would need
the later commentaries to be 'heard' by the biggest audience -
Q - what's the plan for the off shoot books?

<BenjaminW>	Thank You

<Haydenlaw>	Thank you Geshe-la.

<AndreaLe>	Anthony, GMR is getting your question

<AndreaLe>	Anthony, wait a momont... he's looking for the files we'll
                post online.

<kentsandv>	Ted, could we push pages from Geshe-las computer to a web
site as JPEG or PNg files, and then people autorefresh from time
to time (or that could be part of the HTML page code)?

<danielaC>	Thanks to GMR and all of you for enabling us to do this

<Christoph>	Thanks to Geshe-la

<PattiLoun>	Thank you, Geshe-la.

<alicechen>	thank you Geshela

<TedLemon>	There's no way that should be faster than VNC. I think the
problem is that the VNC client is doing IO stupidly, which I can
fix more easily than what you described.

<kentsandv>	Thank you Geshe-la!

<AndreaLe>	Anthony, that was your question from the audience.

<Abelveram>	I very gratefull after many years os studying Gueshela's
courses this is the first time i hear him live. Thank you
                gueshela.please tell taht to him

<AndreaLe>	I will :-)

<TedLemon>	Yay!

<anthonyde>	derivitive works - makes a lot of sense, thanks you

<PeteUlint>	Thanks Geshe-la, Ted, Andrea and all. This is GREAT.

<Haydenlaw>	Good answer

<jrigzintu>	It is very exciting to get connected up to others who are
interested in Tibetan, and to have such a great teacher as Geshe-la

<jrigzintu>	thanks

<AndreaLe>	That was your comment that got applause, Abelveram

<Max>	friday ok

<Max>	some time? Can we do it before? like 3 or 4 ?

<PattiLoun>	"See" you all on Friday.

<AndreaLe>	mandala...

<alicechen>	will we do this tomorrow?

<AndreaLe>	Friday.

<TedLemon>	Friday.

<alicechen>	ok

<alicechen>	thank you Ted

<AndreaLe>	Thank you thank you for coming!

<TedLemon>	We will try to start earlier - we actually had to go hunting
for the network connection that's why we started so late.

<jrigzintu>	clap clap clap

<kentsandv>	Thanks for being online and helping out, Andrea and Ted.

<Abelveram>	thanks to everyone

<PeteUlint>	applause!!

<Haydenlaw>	clap clap

<PattiLoun>	Thank you all so very, very much!!!!!!

<JamesDunn>	THanks everyone!!!

<AndreaLe>	Let's work out the kinks together so many others can join
                this class.

<TedLemon>	Okay, th-th-that's all, folks!

<AndreaLe>	You're helping many others by bearing with us here!

<Haydenlaw>	Thank you all.

<PeteUlint>	Hey if you guys need testers during the week, please let me
                know.

<kentsandv>	yes, feel free to contact me (sandvik@gmail.com or
sandvik@mac.com) and I could help from here.

<Max>	thanks!

<TedLemon>	You guys are the pioneers.

<jrigzintu>	Thanks again

<PeteUlint>	Bye all!

of the meetings considering also european time? Maybe just an
                hour or 2 before?
