A VISIT FROM REGENESIS
Last term’s Cottage Retreat class agreed that planning for long term land use is a critical first step in building retreat cabins or other buildings on Diamond Mountain property. So with permission from the Board of Trustees, two experienced land use planners,Ben Haggard and Tim Murphy, known as Regenesis, were invited to come to Diamond Mountain for two days in April, 2005. It was a very busy time in the last term, so only a few people were able to participate or hear the sessions which were given over a two day period. However, Douglas Smith videotaped each session and Bart Hiatt has put them on a disc, see Bart or contact him at bartswindow@yahoo.com. This will be of interest to anyone who is thinking about what we do here now and how it will affect the future of this place.
At the sessions we talked about “who this land is, who it invites us to be, and the relationship we are being called into.” We learned something about its geological and human history, how it was degraded and what it could become. We got some sense of what a long term project this is, how much careful observation and deep thinking will be needed to come into correct relationship with land as a living being, something we can love and care for rather than simply use. Further notes from the planning session can be found on the Diamond Mountain WIKI site.
